Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan were the reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, having won the titles from Becky Lynch and Lita on the April 10 episode of Monday Night Raw.

The duo had successfully defended their titles twice against Damage CTRL (Bayley and IYO SKY) on SmackDown, but their reign came to an abrupt end due to an unfortunate injury.

Liv Morgan suffered an injury a few days ago, which prevented them from defending their titles against Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green on the following Raw, May 13.

As a result, WWE announced on SmackDown that Raquel and Liv had vacated their titles, and a fatal four-way tag team match would take place on the May 29 episode of Raw to crown new champions.

Raquel Rodriguez faced Chelsea Green in a singles match on the May 22 episode of Raw, where she picked up the win but was attacked by Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler after the match. Rousey and Baszler made it clear that they were aiming for the vacant titles and that they would not let anyone stand in their way.
