However, rumors of WWE downplaying Zayn have been denied by an anonymous high-ranking WWE figure.
In a statement to Fightful Select, the figure highlighted Zayn’s contributions to recent events, stating that he has been the center of attention for multiple shows, headlined a PLE, and was involved in the biggest storyline in the company. The figure also stated that WWE had solid plans for Zayn and the Universal Championship and that Zayn was viewed as a top-tier talent.

Fightful Select also reported that Sami Zayn and Owens’ match had been planned since November 2022, shortly after WWE confirmed the Elimination Chamber 2023 in Montreal. WWE also had enough confidence in Zayn to allow him to improvise his promo on the night before Elimination Chamber.
