In the latest episode of Monday Night RAW on USA Network, it has been confirmed that Cody Rhodes will go head-to-head with Brock Lesnar at WWE Backlash 2023 – the company’s next premium live event.
The announcement was made during the show, which featured Rhodes demanding Lesnar’s presence and eventually getting into a physical altercation with security guards.
Despite receiving the medical clearance for the fight in Puerto Rico, Lesnar’s surprise attack on Rhodes during a previous episode of RAW hinted at his true feelings towards Rhodes. Fans can expect a high-octane showdown between the two superstars at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on May 6.
Two weeks ago, on Raw after WrestleMania, Cody Rhodes demanded a rematch for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns. Rhodes claimed that his WrestleMania 39 match against Reigns was not fair and wanted another chance to face the Tribal Chief.
However, Paul Heyman, the special counsel of Roman Reigns, denied his request for a one-on-one match.
When Rhodes suggested a tag team match against Reigns and Solo Sikoa, Heyman told him that it would only be possible if he could find a partner from the locker room who participated in WrestleMania 39. In a surprise appearance, Brock Lesnar showed up and offered to become Rhodes’ tag team partner against Reigns and Sikoa.

The match was set to take place as the main event of Raw after WrestleMania. However, Lesnar shocked the WWE Universe by brutally attacking Cody Rhodes, causing the match to be canceled. The following week, Cody Rhodes demanded an answer from Brock Lesnar regarding his vicious attack. Rhodes also challenged Lesnar to a match at the upcoming WWE Backlash premium live event.
In addition to Rhodes vs Lesnar, the WWE Backlash 2023 billboard also features team combat between The Bloodline (Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso, and Solo Sikoa) and Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, and Matt Riddle. Stay tuned for more updates and announcements on this exciting event.
